The Magic Wand Protocol: What If You Could Have Everything You Wanted From Life?
Let's pretend that you had a magic wand with unlimited power. With one flick of the wrist, you had the absolute ability to change anything or everything in your life. With this new ability, what would you do? How would you use it? What specific changes would you make? In moments of quiet or during stressful operational crises, we have all had those "I wish my life..." moments. But very few founders can describe in a detailed, coherent way exactly what that life looks like. We generally stay in the broad overview perspective, but rarely put enough thought into generating an emotionally compelling vision—and this failure to clearly define your target is exactly why you remain trapped in a chaotic, reactive existence...
Giving Yourself Permission to Dream
The objective of today's article is to give you permission to dream. To be entirely unrealistic, to remove all exterior or self-imposed constraints, and genuinely visualize what your dream life looks like.
For startup founders (especially first-timers), the default path is to grind and fail, grind and fail, grind and fail. A small percentage keep trying and keep improving until something finally works. Then, we do more of what worked. We grind. We overcome setback after setback, sales are increasing, and things finally seem to be moving in the right direction.
The $5 Million Plateau and the Broken Founder
There comes a point, usually in the $3 million to $5 million revenue range, where we plateau. Growth stalls, complexity has drastically increased, and grinding through (like you successfully did in the past) will absolutely not help you this time.
This is exactly where we find most of our clients. Desperate for a breakthrough, they usually hire outside consultants or coaches who provide information that inspires and makes the founder feel good. But it doesn't really have any profound, measurable impact on their bottom line.
Many times, we begin working with founders once they are already broken and battered. They are stressed to the max, heavily relying on a stable of mid-tier (or worse) employees just to keep the ship afloat. The founder is pulled in so many conflicting directions that true leadership is lacking, every activity becomes reactionary, and there are fires and problems everywhere.
The Enterprise Reset
It is time for an enterprise reset. We work with founders who genuinely want more out of life to develop a radically new plan. You must install a true enterprise architecture into your current operations to break through the growth plateau. This allows the business to operate efficiently and effectively until the "magic wand" life becomes a physical reality (and many times, far beyond it).
Enterprise architecture is the exact difference between a chaotic "Self-Employed Job" that is merely growing and paying the bills, and a sellable asset that generates generational wealth. Those inflated M&A business valuation multiples that you read about online are mostly clickbait designed to wear you down. However, you can systematically streamline your business and command a premium valuation with intentional enterprise engineering.
Define Your Target
The first step, however, is creating a compelling and highly detailed vision of exactly where you want to go. We miss 100% of the targets we fail to identify.
