Nuance

 

During a recent team meeting, a conversation arose discussing the tangible results our clients have experienced. Specifically, all of our Elite 30 members have achieved amazing business success. But... we observed some clients that are absolutely killing it while others are growing at a modest rate by comparison. (Modest in a room of super-achievers is still killing it by traditional standards) 

Everyone received the same information and coach access for implementation. What is the difference? 

The answer: Nuance! 

I have always been skeptical of marketing approaches, regardless of the industry, that gives generalized advice. (i.e. All business owners should do these three things to retire a millionaire, and all women should start doing this to lose weight and feel young again) 

 

The problem is that generalities contain a truth or truths that are accurate, but the huge results come from the nuance. The small details that make the difference between success and mediocrity or even failure. 

Everyone knows that you must market your company and sell products or services to grow your business. But, you can market to the wrong customer, sell products below the optimum margin levels restrict cash flow for future growth, hire employment liabilities instead of employment assets, etc. 

So you follow the marketing and sales advice doing the correct activities, but end up with a result that was less than your intended outcome. Why? General advice was followed, but the nuance of your individual business needs was ignored. The end result? Another entrepreneurial failure became a statistic. 

 

There will always be a percentage of the population that will succeed with general mentorship. There will always be a large percentage that fail. 

Those successful entrepreneurs who can tailor general advice to their specific business in a nuanced way will always lead the pack. 

Better still… Driven entrepreneurs who work with a qualified business mentor that has been in the same position (and beyond) that can help you navigate future problems... before you know there is a problem. 

 

Let's use Tesla as an example. Tesla vehicles have the ability to communicate with each other via a private network in real-time. 

Let’s imagine Tesla A is navigating a mountain pass during a snowstorm. The snow and ice have rapidly deteriorated the road conditions. Tesla A slows down, slips and slides, and eventually take an hour to get to the intended destination. Tesla A is communicating the road conditions and internal modifications with other Tesla vehicles instantaneously. 

Tesla B is 30 minutes behind Tesla A. Once Tesla B encounters the same mountain pass, the car automatically downshifts to decrease speed, increases torque to the rear wheels, and slightly increases the power available to the front tires. Tesla B makes it to the same destination in 45 minutes. 

Tesla A carved the path and sent the data so Tesla B could navigate the road with fewer issues in less time. The same thing happens with qualified mentors for your business. A great mentor has navigated the pass and figured out the adjustments for you to save you time and stress. 

Your mentor has been through that treacherous mountain pass before. By the time you get there all of the appropriate adjustments have been made to smooth out your trip, many times without the knowledge of the danger that you avoided as a result. 

 

It is our job as business mentors/coaches to ensure that all generalized advice is implemented with the specific needs of each business owner in mind. At this specific time in their entrepreneurial journey. Nuance!

We take great pride in cautiously choosing who we work with to ensure that we are getting the best results for our clients with forecastable regularity. General advice serves a purpose. But, to be the best of the best… Only a custom approach will do.
